Dutch profiles

Jana and Carole went to Ballarat to film the history of the Red Devils and saw a glimpse of the bright future of a new soccer league for soccer in Australia.

This is a must-see episode for everyone who loves stories about  soccer, history and migrant children. Be aware, when you were at the World Cup game between the Netherlands and Australia in the Portland Hotel in Melbourne, you may appear in this episode!

'Tim and Monique and the sparkling trumpets' is a mini-series about an artist enjoying Melbourne. As Monique has her own children's TV program in the Netherlands she is used to glamour and cameras. We follow her and Tim (now known as the cute Dutch boy) during the song festival.

Judge for yourselves. They were travelling together with the sparkling trumpets with I asked them to play the national anthem on on the bridge!

Minister Timmermans also came to Australia a few months ago.  people of Dutch Care and Dutch TV had the opportunity to meet this charismatic man. Watch his speech which was full of compassion and stories from the heart.

Dutch profiles is about water and the city. urban design & landscape architecture.

West 8 - Urban Design and Landscape Architecture

With his partners, Edzo Bindels, Martin and Jamie Maslyn Larson, he leads an international team of 70 people in Rotterdam and New York, working on large urban and landscape projects all over the world. They managed to turn an old Amsterdam harbour into a vibrant urban area and transformed Governors Island in New York into a successful tourist destination. They came up with a coherent vision for the Toronto Central Waterfront. In each project water is key.

Nederlanders in Australië: 3zzz
Dutch TV visits… Dutch Radio!

Swinging Dutch music, a happy audience, and juicy anecdotes about bloopers. Dutch Radio in Melbourne is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Presenter Ina Lewis, who was there since the beginning, gives us a tour.

We meet her in the studios of 3ZZZ, Melbourne’s ethnic community radio station. “When I press the ON AIR button, we take over from the Austrian program, they broadcast before us,” Ina explains.

We listen to Vader Abraham, hear ads from Dutch organisations in Australia and Ina answers calls from the audience. “Thanks for listening to us! Happy to hear that you like our program.”

With a film crew visiting the Dutch program, it’s getting a bit crowded in the studio. “How ‘gezellig’ that you are visiting us, Carole,” Ina says. “Wouldn’t you like to join us too?”

Information

The Dutch program is part of 3ZZZ Melbourne Ethnic Community Radio, located in Fitzroy. More than sixty ethnic groups have their own weekly program at 92.3 on the FM radio band.

Philips - Ambient Experience in Health Care

Philips is one of the largest electronics companies in the world. The Company was founded in 1891 by Gerard Philips, with its first products being light-bulbs.

Since then, they have gone on to develop a wide range of products for use in all areas of society. One of the most important areas that Philips shifted into is Health Care. With their experience in audiovisual technology, they have created a new and improved, so-

called Ambient Experience in a Health Care environment. To explain to children how the medical procedure works, Philips designed a small-scale Kitten Scanner. It is

one of the many examples where Philips focuses on the well-being of people and not only on technical product innovation.

Maxwan - Urban Masterplanning

Maxwan doesn't aim for one recognisable style. Key to their way of working is to first absorb the ideas of all other parties involved, and then come up with an

integrated and creative approach. This can be seen in their masterplan for Leidsche Rijn, a suburb of Utrecht, combining over 30.000 new homes with large open

public spaces.Recently, Maxwan has been working on the masterplan for 'Barking Riverside', an area of 200 hectares along the river Thames in East London.

Backpackers: Robin

Dancing, singing and visiting secret hippie festivals: Robin has discovered her creative side in Australia. Wherever possible, she opens her backpack, pops out a collapsible travel hula hoop and starts spinning around. Dutch TV spoke to Robin during her stay in Melbourne, where she was working as an au-pair. However, Australia is more than parties and work for her. As real nature lover, Robin’s advice is: don’t forget to visit Tasmania and the Blue Mountains!

Avianca and her mum have the shop a touch of Dutch in Berwick. When I asked her the question: I know it is nice for the rest of Melbourne, but why did you wanted this shop?  I didn’t know that was the main question of the interview. Avianca is in between worlds and has her shop to breath Dutch culture, but isn’ t it holding her back to live where her heart is?

Backpackers: Jana and Anton

It’s all in the family: brother and sister Jana and Anton started traveling together almost two years ago. As kids, they never missed a day of fighting, but now they’ve become best mates ever. Cattle stations, sailing boats, ski resorts and tomato farms: you name it and they’ve worked there. Furthermore, this adventurous couple has tried every form of traveling: driving, flying, hitchhiking, cycling. Cool detail: Jana has ticked off all Australian states!

Fires and Australia is nearly one, so we were surprised to find a Dutchie on the top management of this big organisation. He tells us about the CFA and his connections with the Netherlands. Would he be a fireman when he live in the Netherlands? Why did he start? and helps his Dutch background with things he need with his job?!

Family of Vincent van Gogh

For this item we travelled to Arrawatta, a beautifull surrounding for Mainsfield Gallery. The Gallery of

John Koenders , a well known painter in Australia.

He got in 2006 a phone call from the Netherlands telling him that he was family of Vincent van Gogh.

Of course this was very exiting for him, but at the other hand he doesn’t want to trade on his name.

He wants to show the world what really happened in van Gogh his life. We listened to his story ..

Maritime Museum
For this item interviewed Jagindher in Fremantle the director of the Maritime museum.

I asked Jaghindher to do this as he made a film about the Batavia last year and it will be great to see some

related interest going about this topic. The director tells full expression about the stories of the ships in his museum and which ship he would love to have in his collection.

Backpackers: Janne

This is a special story. Imagine you sit on a bench in the sun, when a girl walks up to you: “Can you please draw me a beautiful moment of last week?” That’s Janne. After drawing beautiful moments herself for years, she started collecting moments from other people as well. In trains, in parks, on the street. The effect: people smile and start talking to each other. The idea of a world tour was born. Europe, Asia and now Australia and New Zealand. Do you want to know what Aussies think is beautiful? Janne will tell you!

Bonegilla
Mieke, Keith and Marijke. Three people who never knew eachother, but travelled with us to Bonegilla a place that they always wanted to forget, but never could. A place what is saved by Marijke and made as a museum, a place what is written about by Keith and a place we never saw before. We tried to get the stories of these three people and go back to the past and feel now how the place feels now.

Bonegilla is the biggest migration camp ever been in Australia. Lots of people started their lives here and moved on from it. Maybe a place you don’t want to come back to, but good for us to see and to talk about with the community.
